How to Have an Amazing Stay at a Hotel

Have you ever wondered why some people seem to have wonderful stays at hotels, but your stays are only just okay? Selecting the right hotel is definitely part of it. However, it's also partially up to you to ensure you have a great stay! Here are some things you can do to make any hotel stay more amazing.

1. Arrive as soon as check-in time begins.

If it is possible to arrange your flights or drive to do so, plan on arriving at your hotel the very moment check-in begins. For instance, if a hotel allows check-in any time after 2:00, plan on checking in at 2:00. This not only gives you more time to actually relax and enjoy the hotel, but it also ensures the front desk staff still has a full selection of rooms to hand out. If you're one of the first to arrive, they will often give you one of the nicer rooms — like one at the end of the hall or one with a newer bathroom.

2. Be kind and considerate to the front desk person.

Front desk people are used to dealing with all sorts of tired and cranky travelers. They're so used to dealing with unpleasant individuals that when someone is actually kind and caring towards them, they will go above and beyond for that person. These staff members have a lot of leeway. At some hotels, they can give you a chip for a free drink at the bar. They can make sure you have extra towels or newer pillows. When you check in, smile, greet the staff members, and be generally nice; it will go a long way.

3. Venture outside your room.

You're not going to have an amazing hotel stay if you spend the whole time sitting on the bed and watching TV! Get out there and enjoy what the hotel has to offer. Sit in the lobby and strike up some conversations with strangers. Visit the pool; even if you do not swim, you can sit beside the water and enjoy the ambiance. Go for a walk through the garden outside, eat a meal at the on-site restaurant, and so forth.

Even your average hotel stay can get a whole lot better if you follow the tips above. It's the little things that make a difference — the extra pillow you get, the corner room you're assigned, or the nice pool you get to lounge by.
